If meat is kept in the home freezer for a year or two, is it safe and good to eat?

Yes, the meat is safe to eat if it was of good quality and wrapped properly when placed in the home freezer and it has remained frozen throughout the storage time. However, the eating quality may have deteriorated due to dehydration and flavor change in the fat.

What are the recommended freezer storage times for meat?

We recommend the following freezer storage guidelines:

Beef 6 to 12 months
Pork 6 to 9 months
Chicken 6 to 9 months
Turkey 6 to 9 months
Ground Pork 1 to 3 months
Ground Beef 3 to 4 months

What does the date on the package mean?

Our packages carry a “Use or Freeze by” date. We cannot recommend use beyond the date given unless the product has been frozen.
